Coops

There are many tech coops to choose from – ranging from member-based coops to worker coops (or both!).

Usually co-ops work together or are members of wider networks of co-ops, so you can easily change providers.

Non-Profits or For Profit or Enterprise

If you are worried about a profit motive or fear that your provider may get sold to a bigger company, you can stick with a provider that is legally incorporated as a non-profit. Alternatively, if you don’t think your board will be behind a non-profit, there are plenty of small businesses with a long history of providing online services. You can even go with a provider that has track record supporting enterprise level services.

Environmental

Some providers specifically have servers in environmentally sustainable hosting centers or otherwise are focused on optimizing their environmental impact.

Proximity and support

Not all providers offer support or the kind of support you are looking for. Maybe you want someone local who you can see in person? Maybe you want telephone based support?
